Tumblestone is a match-three puzzle game with some mechanics reminiscent of Magical Drop and Tetris Attack, but the core gameplay mechanic is different.
In each game player must clear the colored blocks that move down from the top of the screen. Players can shoot blocks with a character at the bottom of the screen, but only those at the front of the line. These blocks are then placed on top, outside of the playfield. The object of the game is to consecutively select three blocks of the same color. When blocks of different colors are selected the bar will lower more quickly or you fail a puzzle, depending on the game type.
In single-player mode, every zone introduces new puzzle elements. These includes rainbow blocks that act as jokers, grey blocks that are only in the way, conveyor belts that slide block rows sideways after each move, rotating columns of blocks, alternating "locked" colors and more.
Game types include Story mode, Quest mode, Heartbeat mode, Marathon and Infinite Puzzle mode. The game supports local multiplayer with up to four players or competing against bots. There is also online multiplayer with leaderboards. Multiplayer modes include the game types Battle mode, Tug of War and Puzzle Race.
