Sword Of The Berserk: Gut's Rage - Sega Dreamcast
Based on the popular Japanese manga, Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage follows the story of Gattsu (Guts), the one-eyed rogue warrior, as he roams the land searching for a cure for his beloved Casca and looking to exact revenge against the supernatural warrior clan known as God Hand. Guts and Casca once belonged to a band of highly trained mercenaries known as the Hawks. Now they are the only remaining survivors after an attack from the God Hand left the other members of the Hawks slaughtered. The intense tragedy left Casca's mind traumatized and her sanity unbalanced. Guts will not rest until the score is settled and Casca's madness is cured.

Along their travels, Guts and Casca come upon a kingdom that is being overrun by a vicious plague that turns humans into grotesque creatures. The plague is actually a horde of parasitic plants known as Mandragora. Once a Mandragora attaches itself to a human it gains complete control of them, thus turning them into a Mandragoran. Little is known about this mysterious plant, but its aggressive attacks are spreading fear throughout the kingdom. It is believed that the Mandragora thrive in a village near the castle and are protected by a nun who believes the plants are not evil.
Baron Balzac is known throughout the kingdom as a fierce warrior and is in search of an antidote for the Mandragora plague. After witnessing Guts defeat a particularly large Mandragoran, Baron Balzac tries to enlist Guts to aid him in the search for the antidote. The Baron believes the answer lies in the village where the nun keeps a watchful eye over the Mandragora. Led to believe that Casca's illness might be connected somehow with the recent Mandragora plague, Guts agrees to seek out the nun and recover the essential element needed to make the antidote -- the heart of the Mandragora.
Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage puts you in control of Guts and his seven-foot sword -- The Dragon Slayer. You must navigate Guts through level after level of invading Mandragora and dangerous bandits, hacking and slashing your way toward Casca's salvation. Guts has a certain characteristic that aids him in his efforts. When he achieves a certain amount of successful attacks or receives too much damage, Guts tends to go a little berserk. When he reaches this point, his eyes will glow red with bloodlust and his speed and strength will increase significantly. Enemy attacks do less damage to Guts while he is in Berserk Mode.

Because Guts' sword is so devastatingly huge, it can't be used accurately in close confines (except when in Berserk Mode). Luckily, Guts has his trusty hand crossbow to use when he can't wield Dragon Slayer. Also at his disposal are throwing knives (unlimited ammo), grenades, and a devastating hand cannon. Grenades and rounds for the hand canon can be found by destroying certain objects in the environment.
Included in Sword of the Berserk are special gameplay features such as Button Timer Sequences, Multiple Paths, and Stage Saves. Button Timer Sequences take place at certain times during different in-game movie sequences and requires you to quickly push a button on the controller that corresponds with the button displayed in an on-screen prompt. Whether you respond quickly enough or not, Guts' fate is at your fingertips. Also, while in certain areas of the castle, you can choose which path to lead Guts down by hacking through doors or barricades, and after completing certain stages in the game, you will be able to save your progress.
Sword of the Berserk also includes an added feature called the Prize Box. Every time you beat the game on a different difficulty level, the Prize Box will award you with new game secrets and new play modes. Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage is a one-player game and is compatible with the Jump Pack and VMU.
